Alicia speaks up for persons with FASDs

Hi! My name is Alicia.

My name is Alicia Roark and I am an adult with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Effects. (FAE). My mom drank the entire 9 months of her pregnancy I am told and left me with the result of such poor choices.

I was raised in foster care in Oakdale, Louisiana where I lived most of my life until I was 19. Living with FAE hasn’t always been easy. The biggest issue I faced was my shot central nervous system which would lead me into temper tantrums and emotional outrages. God bless my poor mom who loved me unconditionally. She got me when I was 4 years old!

Today I am married and am a Sign Language Interpreter for the Commonwealth of Virginia. I have two college degrees. One in Business the other in American Sign Language!

There is HOPE! I have provided a few short articles to help you parent your child and appreciate and love your adult.

My foster mother (Zell Marcantell, Oakdale, Louisiana) is my hero.

She raised 72 of somebody else’s kids. She had me the longest! She is my hero! Keep on going there is hope! Last but not least, on a hard day… Go find the song Heroes by The Isaacs and just listen! It’ll give you grace for every moment, peace for every trial, and a love that can keep on going in good and bad days!

God bless you all!
